The Huron Again; They'll Stop at Nothing!

The Huron River hex hatch is starting to remind me of the Au Sable Hex Hatch. Got on the river in my usual dexter-area location and saw one guy downstream from me. His buddy was a little farther around the bend. Another guy (with his dog) entered just upstream from me and about 5 minutes later, someone else waded in by him and walked upstream. Boxed in--a Huron first for me. I was in a location that didn't look too good, but there was no room to move.

Before the bugs came, I caught one good rockie on a popper, and lost a decent size smallmouth at my feet. Very little feeding during the hex and ephroron; very few ephorons, come to think of it. Picked off a few dinky rock bass and two good ones, and that was it.

As far as I could tell, the people near me weren't doing much better. Time to look for new water.

Last night, it was reported that White House officials and other Republican operatives were already scrambling to make political hay of the terrorist plot foiled in Britain. According to a story filed by AFP, President Bush learned of the plot last Fiday. On the day before the raid, VP Cheney "held a highly unusual conference call with reporters to attack the Democrats as weak against terrorism."

A repubican congressional aide remarked that ""I'd rather be talking about this than all of the other things that Congress hasn't done well." And inside the white house, one staffer enthused that ""Weeks before September 11th, this is going to play big."

Isn't this the same crowd that, two days ago, was heaping praise on Joe Lieberman for "rising above partisanship" when he chose to continue his Senate bid as an independent?
