Fishin' In the Mist

During the annual campout with my wife's company a few weeks back, I got up early on Sunday morning to take our host's boat out on the lake to try for some bass. I had only a couple of short hookups, but being out on the lake in the dense early morning fog was entrancing in itself. Unbeknownst to me, one of our fellow campers, a former colleague of my wife's now working as a freelance photographer, snapped a shot of me as I was pulling away from the dock. He sent a copy to my wife, who scanned it for me to post here.

This completely captured the moment, I thought. It will have a special place on my wall.

I didn't know it at the time, but I was not alone on the lake that day. A few minutes after Kristine emailed me that picture, she sent a second version she said she had run on a higher resolution scanner. I couldn't believe what it turned up.

No wonder she worries about me when I go fishing.

Another woodchuck has moved into the den under the forsythias next to our barn. And I'd dug it up after I caught the last of those furry buggers! I'll probably take care of it tomorrow, but this is becoming too routine for good blog fodder.
