If you rototill a previously unbroken patch of ground, you'll need to run the machine over it at least twice. Or so I find out 3 days after tilling my meadow plot once and returning the rented machine. Today and most of yesterday, I've been going back over it and turning over patches of grass that remain rooted in, which seem to cover most of where I tilled. Very slow and tedious work.
Every summer since I moved in to this house, I've seen catbirds nesting in the spruces along the north edge of our lawn...until last summer.
This year they seem to be back; at least I hear their mewling while I'm out there shoveling. They do sound a lot like a peevish cat (as if there were any other kind).
