Miscellany

I heard a white throated sparrow outside my window this morning. They must be on the move. White throats are a bird I associate closely with fishing. They have provided a soundtrack for my leaving the river (any river) at dusk I don't know how many times.

I'll be taking my new pontoon boat on its maiden voyage this afternoon. Report to follow.

On a fishing discussion board, a poster said: "Religions are like gun dogs. Everyone thinks theirs is the best, and if you disagree they get offended. Me, I like all dogs as long as they're not pissing on my leg."

To me, Holy Saturday is the day on the church calender that best encapsulates the human experience: Caught somewhere between suffering and transcendence.
