Not a whole lot of interest to report over the last month. Two daytrips to birdhunt in central Michigan. Flushed at least half a dozen birds on each, with one woodcock brought down. It's an improvement over last season, when I saw 4 birds total. Other than that, October's been a month of work and abject loafing.
I'm not doing too much to celebrate Halloween, though it is one of my favorite days of the year. Not because of the spooky festivities, but because it marks the end of lawmowing for the year. I will not cut again after halloween. Sometimes I'll mow a few days before, if it doesn't look like I will be able to on the holiday itself, but never afterward. It's a matter of principle. One subtropical November I really should have cut one more time, but I didn't. Soon enough, I reasoned, snow would fall and push the tall grass down. And it did.
We are observing the holiday otherwise at least a little. Everyone at Kristine's company dresses up for the day, and this year she went in Lucy's witch costume from It's the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown.

We carved some pumpkins last night:

Or is meant to be, at least.
Enjoy the holiday, whatever it takes.
