Charity--Charitably
Laura over at Ypsi~Dixit recently posted and commented on an article that reminds us of some of the ways that efforts to help the less fortunate may further lessen them. To need, even simply to receive, the largesse of others can be felt as an affront to one's dignity, implying that one is unable to provide for one's own. Would-be givers undercut the value of their gifts if they focus on people's needs more than on the humanity of people in need. The writer of the article at Laura's blog recounts a creative and successful effort to overcome this humanitarian dilemma. Worth reading in this giving season.
